Peter Wang is the Head of School and a pianist for the Con Brio School of Music. He began his studies in piano at the age of 11. By the age of 15, he received an Award of Exhibition from the Trinity College of London, for ‘outstanding achievement in the Performer’s Certificate’, placing him first in his field in New Zealand.
After moving to Sydney to pursue further musical studies, Peter scored in the top band for Music in the Higher School Certificate and was nominated to perform in the ENCORE concert at the Sydney Opera House. The former Minister of Education and Training, John Watkins, congratulated him in writing for an unforgettable performance.
Peter’s passionate temperament and piano virtuosity have won him numerous prizes and scholarships in major competitions throughout New Zealand and Australia including the Theme and Variations Award provided by Steinway and Sons which he won in both 2004 and 2005.
After completing his Bachelor of Music (Performance) with distinction in 2006 at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, he was invited to become a member of the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society, in recognition of his outstanding scholastic achievements throughout his degree.
Under Peter’s direction, the Con Brio School of Music is now a leading music school in Sydney with over 500 students. Con Brio students have won over a thousand of first prizes in major competitions and eisteddfods, as well as achieving distinctions in exams from the earliest grades to diploma levels. Many of Peter’s students have also been accepted to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and have also achieved full music scholarships to prestigious private schools. Under Peter’s guidance, several of his students have also been nominated to perform at the prestigious ENCORE concert held at the Sydney Opera House.
A fully accredited teacher of the Music Teachers’ Association (NSW), Peter also performs solo and chamber music, is a professional accompanist and a frequent masterclass presenter. Other than classical piano, Peter has a strong interest in jazz and composition, having been praised for his skill in this field by leading Australian composer, Professor Anne Boyd.
In 2010, Peter completed his Graduate Certificate in Piano Pedagogy with distinction from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
In 2015 Peter was appointed as a Senior Piano Teacher for the Open Academy of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
From 2013 to 2016, Con Brio School of Music was awarded the AMEB shield for the “Most Outstanding Music School”. Selected from around 8,000 enrolling teachers and 40,000 exam students annually for the categories of:
