The Higher School Certificate (HSC) is the exam year 12 students take in order to achieve an ATAR, which is a ranking that determines which courses you are able to study in University. In the HSC, students are able to study either:
- Music 1
- Music 2, and for those who want to go the extra mile, add on
- Music Extension
All these courses include a performance element, where a maximum of 6 pieces of music will need to be prepared for examinations.
The top performances across the whole state will be nominated for a chance to be selected to perform at the Board of Studies “Encore” Concert, with only 1 or 2 being chosen every 5000 performances! If successful, they will be part of the concert that is held at the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House to play amongst the top musical items.
In 2016, HSC Con Brio students Nigel Lin, Samuel Lin and Leon Yao were all nominated for a chance to perform at this amazing concert. We wish them the best of luck!
Likewise, our teacher, Gordon Ng, was not only nominated but also selected to play at Encore during his HSC year.
